Jesus is the Messiah

Why the Messiah?

At the very beginning of the Bible, we see Adam and Eve living with God in the Garden of Eden. Even though everything was perfect in the Garden, evil already existed. Evil in the Garden of Eden existed in the form of a serpent who managed to trick Adam and Eve into disobeying God’s command.

It was a fatal mistake on the part of Adam and Eve, which led the world into a downward spiral into sin. It was only after the rebellion that we see God make His first promise, enacting His plan of redemption and deliverance, saving humanity once again.

“Then the Lord God said to the serpent: …I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; this offspring will crush your head and you will bruise its heel”

Genesis 3:14

God promised that one day, someone will come and crush the head of the serpent, the one who brought evil and suffering into the world, but not before being bitten by the serpent itself.

It’s something beautiful, but at the same time unexpected. This promise leaves us without any other explanation until the figure and the promise made to Abraham later in time. God promised Abraham that through his descendants, goodness and blessings will be restored to the world. That a great king will come from his family and that this king will be the one who will destroy evil and fulfill the promise made by God to Abraham.

And so king after king, dynasty after dynasty came, but they all fell in a short time and were destroyed by evil.

Thus we arrive at the end of the Old Testament just over two thousand years after the promise that God had made. More than two thousand years waiting for this hope that no king has managed to complete.

One could think of a broken promise, broken, even before being fulfilled…

“The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness“

Exodus 34:6

loyal, constant, and faithful he instead brought His promise to fruition.

Who is the Messiah? 

Messiah literally means “anointed one”, “King”. The correspondent of the word anointed in Greek would be none other than “Christos”, which translated means Christ. Word attributed to Christ, figure of Jesus, the Messiah, Son of God, Son of David, Son of Man.

Coming from the line of David and Judah, Jesus met every necessary requirement of the Messiah long awaited by Israel, that he would fight evil in the world. Despite everything, the Jews did not realize that Jesus was the Messiah. Consumed by evil, Jesus was killed and with him, the savior and the Son of God.

What did the Messiah leave us?

All this was necessary to ensure that the word spoken long ago in the Garden of Eden was fulfilled: “Her offspring [Jesus] will bruise your head, and you will bruise her heel.

Jesus was broken by evil and died on the cross, but his story doesn’t end there. Three days later He rose from the dead. One day Jesus will definitively crush evil, but thanks to his resurrection He obtained supreme power over death. Thanks to Jesus we today have power over death and evil.

God leaves us with a choice, after the incredible victory and gift of Jesus, He wants you too, today, to live an abundant, blessed life characterized by joy, peace and victories, despite everything.One thing he asks of you…  follow me, to leave your life at the foot of the cross and let Him be the master of your life.

The future hope is today. Like ancient Israel, we too must wait for the return of Christ before we can fully celebrate the victory over evil. However, the battle has already been won – just as God promised – and God wants to give you this victory today, right now, if you will only follow Jesus.
